Behold: The ongoing ordeal of Empowered vol.9’s cover illustration! Getting some negative feedback on the kinda-sorta finished pencils (at top), with “she looks chunky” and “stiff/ and or unattractive pose” being recurring refrains. To tie in to the overall theme of the volume, I wanted to give Emp a hands-on-hips pose that was more powerful and assertive than the usual cocked-hip, “sexy arms akimbo” model pose. The results, I admit, aren’t quite as fetching as I might like; the Emp figure is based on a very cute pic of someone I know, a quality which the drawing ineffably fails to convey fully. I definitely don’t wanna sub in a more stereotypically “hawt” pose, though.
Might try to merge in the bolder, more striking leg pose from the earlier “BWAHAHAHA!” cover rough (at bottom), though that would require moving or impinging on the lower set of background characters…. Hrmmm.
